Gehan McLian didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Roordan Sheridan went, in the 5th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. 1-1 became the score in the 8th minute when Blathmac Deans elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Abbeyleix Utd's zone, Bercan Byrne stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gehan McLian came out of the goal and Bercan Byrne tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a defensive mix-up in Athnaleenta's zone, Arthur Lester stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Shannon Ferguson came out of the goal and Arthur Lester tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 22nd minute, Roordan Sheridan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Abbeyleix Utd's Gehan McLian played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roordan Sheridan in the 24th minute of play. When Bercan Byrne came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Athnaleenta fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bercan Byrne couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Abbeyleix Utd's zone, Roordan Sheridan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gehan McLian came out of the goal and Roordan Sheridan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bercan Byrne sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd match minute, Abbeyleix Utd was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geary Gallagher to maneuver through the defense. Roordan Sheridan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Gehan McLian tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 36 minutes, Bercan Byrne made it 1-3 with a short kick to the right side. Abbeyleix Utd's Gehan McLian tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 48th match minute, Athnaleenta was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Blavock McMichel to maneuver through the defense. The Abbeyleix Utd players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Athnaleenta were winning 1-3.

The wind increased when Roordan Sheridan made the kick off in the second half. Abbeyleix Utd's Gehan McLian proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 55th minute of the match, managed to save Abbeyleix Utd from getting a goal against them. Bercan Byrne recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Abbeyleix Utd's Gehan McLian played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roordan Sheridan in the 63rd minute of play. Abbeyleix Utd were awarded a corner in the 67th minute after Athnaleenta's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Rourke Costello took the corner. The corner led Abbeyleix Utd's Rourke Costello to fire away a dangerous shot which Shannon Ferguson despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Bercan Byrne's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 76thth minute, Gehan McLian skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. When Bercan Byrne came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the Athnaleenta fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bercan Byrne couldn't finish the play. Roordan Sheridan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gehan McLian having to interfere. Shannon Ferguson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arthur Lester, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Bercan Byrne who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 87thth minute tested the skills of Gehan McLian when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The audience was convinced that Roordan Sheridan's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gehan McLian was relentless in the 89th minute of the game. With his leg Gehan McLian managed to avoid a goal in the 93rdth minute, when Athnaleenta's Bercan Byrne fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. If Roordan Sheridan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Shannon Ferguson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Blathmac Deans in the 98th minute of play. Athnaleenta's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
