With his leg Pierce Johnson managed to avoid a goal in the 11thth minute, when Sandyford's Bradon Tierney fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Riddoc McCready fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pierce Johnson having to interfere. Pierce Johnson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Riddoc McCready, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Pierce Johnson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bran Ramsey in the 25th minute of play. Lackbrooder's Pierce Johnson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bran Ramsey in the 25th minute of play. Torrian Callaghan struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Pierce Johnson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sandyford. Patrick McBrand showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Braydon Rogers in the 34th minute of the match. Patrick McBrand showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bat Rogers, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. A hard shot by Cormac Dalton from long distance, 39 minutes into the match, got Pierce Johnson's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. 41 minutes into the game, Lackbrooder's Braydon Rogers nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Patrick McBrand made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. After having played for 44 minutes, Bat Rogers managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lackbrooder's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bat Rogers was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Brandan McJohn hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Donegal Willson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Patrick McBrand having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 54th minute, Bradon Tierney left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sandyford fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Torrian Callaghan in the 57th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pierce Johnson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Lackbrooder's Seán McFrancise got a free kick in the 58th minute. In the 74th minute, Roy Byrne hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Pierce Johnson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Torrian Callaghan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 77th minute Torrian Callaghan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pierce Johnson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Lackbrooder's Braydon Rogers slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Patrick McBrand. That made the score 2-2 after 79 minutes of play. Donlevy Jameson made in the 83rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Lackbrooder's Seán McFrancise. After a defensive mix-up in Sandyford's zone, Donegal Willson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Patrick McBrand came out of the goal and Donegal Willson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bat Rogers's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Patrick McBrand read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 96th minute of play.
