Séamus John showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Brenainn McSteven, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Shamrock rovers's Séamus John played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roland Dempsey in the 45th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Reilley Todd to strike the kick off in the second half. Tory McPaul sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Brenna McMichel hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Brenainn McSteven recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Shamrock rovers booed when Emyvale AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donegal Glen Crowe didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Reilley Todd had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gaynor Dimson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bercan Doyle having to interfere. 67 minutes into the match, Shamrock rovers's goal looked a bit too open when Brenainn McSteven came free, but Séamus John reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In a very dangerous position, a player in Emyvale AFC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 72nd minute. Penalty! In the 81st minute, Roland Dempsey fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Séamus John, passed just outside the right post. Barhart Cassin hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. A hard shot by Barr Sheridan from long distance, 88 minutes into the match, got Séamus John's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. With a little luck, Shamrock rovers's Séamus John got control of the ball when Roland Dempsey tried to sneak it across the goal line. Roland Dempsey struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Séamus John didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Emyvale AFC. Roland Dempsey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Shamrock rovers were victorious despite being under pressure from Emyvale AFC for much of the match.
