An unexpectedly hard shot by Reilley Todd in the 14th minute of play forced Athabatteen FC's goalkeeper Tomás Brennan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 17 minutes into the game, Berry Delaney was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Shamrock rovers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Athabatteen FC the free kick. Berry Delaney hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. Tomás Brennan didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Reilley Todd went, in the 21st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Leonard Grant received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Séamus John tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Donavon Rutherford kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. The supporters of Athabatteen FC booed when Shamrock rovers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Brenna McMichel didn't get a good kick on the ball. 34 minutes in the game Fionntán McFrank after having made a beautiful turn got a great opportunity to score and fired away a shot that went just to the left past a relieved Séamus John. A very good opportunity. In the 37th match minute, Athabatteen FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patty Willson to maneuver through the defense. 47 minutes into the game, Patty Willson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Athabatteen FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Shamrock rovers the free kick. After 47 played minutes Athabatteen FC got a freekick which was hit by Patty Willson. The audience held their breath when Berry Delaney in the 50th minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Tomás Brennan's left hand side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Athabatteen FC's Tomás Brennan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 57th minute of the match, managed to save Athabatteen FC from getting a goal against them. Leonard Grant's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Séamus John read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 59th minute of play. Tomás Brennan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reilley Todd, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Donavon Rutherford sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Torran Caffey kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Shamrock rovers's zone, Fionntán McFrank stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Séamus John came out of the goal and Fionntán McFrank tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Athabatteen FC getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Leonard Grant hit a great ball. Donavon Rutherford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Séamus John having to interfere. In the 82nd minute Gaynor Dimson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tomás Brennan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Séamus John took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fionntán McFrank, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 92nd match minute, Athabatteen FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patty Willson to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Athabatteen FC's Tomás Brennan got control of the ball when Benjamin Hutton tried to sneak it across the goal line. Tomás Brennan was out of position in the 96 minute of play, and Berry Delaney capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Berry Delaney really showed his touch with that goal: 0-2. Shamrock rovers's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
