When Saoirse Taylor fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Athabatteen FC's protests and gave Saoirse Taylor a yellow card for diving instead. In the 19th match minute, Athabatteen FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Saoirse Taylor to maneuver through the defense. Boddibevve Beckett received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Bercan Doyle tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Roland Dempsey in the 26th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tomás Brennan saved Athabatteen FC from getting behind. Tory McPaul took the ball and in the 30 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tomás Brennan. Tomás Brennan dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Saoirse Taylor was shown his second yellow card after 32 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. A collision led to Athabatteen FC getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Saoirse Taylor hit a great ball. If Donavon Rutherford had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tomás Brennan came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by Emyvale AFC's Brenainn McSteven. But to his dismay, Brenainn McSteven quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Bercan Doyle showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Boddibevve Beckett, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Athabatteen FC's Breenan Quinnless got his second yellow card of the match in the 43rd minute. The referee ordered Breenan Quinnless off the ground. After 44 played minutes Athabatteen FC got a freekick which was hit by Breenan Quinnless. Tomás Brennan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roland Dempsey, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. In the 46th match minute, Athabatteen FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Donavon Rutherford to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Boddibevve Beckett made the kick off in the second half. With 51 minutes on the clock, Leonard Grant commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After 52 played minutes Athabatteen FC got a freekick which was hit by Leonard Grant. The Athabatteen FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tomás Brennan should have stopped the shot. Emyvale AFC played a much better game than Athabatteen FC and deserved their victory. The Athabatteen FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
