But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Breandan Cooney couldn't finish the play. 14 minutes into the game, Dundalk FC's Oliver Robinson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Beglan McCready made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Bree McPeters short, quick shot in the 19thth minute got Fintan Doherty to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Oliver Robinson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rory Byrne struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Fintan Doherty didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Briskil Utd. Bree McPeter's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 35thth minute, Fintan Doherty skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. With his leg Fintan Doherty managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when Briskil Utd's Bree McPeter fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Fintan Doherty took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bree McPeter, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half Dundalk FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
