Brogan Doyle kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. 24 minutes into the match, Illanbaun Utd's goal looked a bit too open when Timmons Ghee came free, but Pat Harkin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Boyd Walker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pat Harkin having to interfere. A collision led to Illanbaun Utd getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Kain Doyle hit a great ball. After having played for 30 minutes, Cleary Mulvihill managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Illanbaun Utd's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cleary Mulvihill was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 33 minutes into the match, Derrymullen FC's goalkeeper Beiti Quinnless had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cleary Mulvihill. Timmons Ghee recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 34th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Boyd Walker to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Derrymullen FC booed when Illanbaun Utd was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Douglas McPeter didn't get a good kick on the ball. Timmons Ghee struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Pat Harkin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Derrymullen FC. Roland Myler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pat Harkin having to interfere. In the 64th minute Cleary Mulvihill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Beiti Quinnless saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pat Harkin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Boyd Walker in the 68th minute of play. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Derrymullen FC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
