In the 17th match minute, Athy was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Coran Tracy to maneuver through the defense. Bailey Myler was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Balor Mullan showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 19 minute of play. Coran Tracy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Balor Mullan blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Bailey Myler having to make a save. Buncrana FC's Bailey Myler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Balor Mullan in the 31st minute of play. Balor Mullans short, quick shot in the 35thth minute got Bailey Myler to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 37 minutes into the match, Buncrana FC's goal looked a bit too open when Caolán Ferguson came free, but Bailey Myler reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 38 played minutes Buncrana FC got a freekick which was hit by Dolan Crowe. Balor Mullan was shown his second yellow card after 40 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Buncrana FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Athy the free kick. After a rather tough play, Buncrana FC's Dolan Crowe got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Baiscend McTom came free in the 46th minute and tried to tip the ball over Bailey Myler, but to the joy of Buncrana FC's supporters the ball went over. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Bresal Murphy to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Athy getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Darrin McMichel hit a great ball. Bailey Myler made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Caolán Ferguson in the 55th minute of play. Baiscend McTom fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bailey Myler having to interfere. With a little luck, Athy's Brenden Barrett got control of the ball when Finnigan Cooney tried to sneak it across the goal line. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Athy fully deserved thier win.
