Brenden Barrett was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Beanon Tierney came up free with the goalie in the 30th minute, the Galway Cowboys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Beanon Tierney couldn't finish the play. 32 minutes into the game, Darrin McMichel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Athy's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Galway Cowboys the free kick. Brenden Barrett showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mikk Nurk in the 33rd minute of the match. Baiscend McTom sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Sacha Boey took the ball and in the 38 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Brenden Barrett. Brenden Barrett dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. In the 44th match minute, Athy was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Coran Tracy to maneuver through the defense. When Galway Cowboys's Ruben Estebe, in the 45th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Galway Cowboys. 48 minutes into the match, Athy's goal looked a bit too open when Mikk Nurk came free, but Brenden Barrett reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half Galway Cowboys were leading 0-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The crowd rose to their feet as Galway Cowboys's Ruben Estebe slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Brenden Barrett. That made the score 0-6 after 54 minutes of play. Balor Mullan recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Caolán Ferguson hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. In the 62nd minute, Galway Cowboys's Sacha Boey dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-7. After 66 minutes of play, Galway Cowboys's Sacha Boey made it 0-8 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net.
