Caheradrine's Peyton McNamee played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Caolán Ferguson in the 44th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Balor Mullan made a kick off. After 53 played minutes Athy got a freekick which was hit by Baiscend McTom. 56 minutes into the game, Barney Grant was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Caheradrine's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Athy the free kick. After a rather tough play, Caheradrine's Barney Grant got a free kick in the 56th minute. 67 minutes into the game, Rowe Tierney threw the ball into play from the sideline. Caheradrine's Phelan McDonald quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. The supporters of Caheradrine booed when Athy was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rowe Tierney didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Balor Mullan in the 75th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Peyton McNamee saved Caheradrine from getting behind. Donn McSteven might have been able to make a better finish in the 80th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Brenden Barrett. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Donn McSteven ran back to his position shaking his head. 80 minutes into the match, Athy's goal looked a bit too open when Donn McSteven came free, but Brenden Barrett reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Athy's Balor Mullan in the 88th minute got a chance for a shot 88th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Caheradrine's goalie prevented a goal. Caheradrine's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
