An unexpectedly hard shot by Alf Winterburn in the 35th minute of play forced Westbury-sub-Mendip's goalkeeper Sam Gold to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Joshua Neville scored 0-1 in the 37th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sam Gold, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the match had gone on for 44 minutes, Joshua Neville put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Sam Gold. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Joshua Neville to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Alf Winterburn managed to get in a good position for a shot. The supporters of Birmingham FC booed when Westbury-sub-Mendip was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leigh Flintoff didn't get a good kick on the ball. 65 minutes into the match, Westbury-sub-Mendip's goalkeeper Sam Gold had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alf Winterburn. Rodney Peakman might have been able to make a better finish in the 66th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Liam Bannister. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fitz Probert hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. 1-2 became the score in the 70th minute when Ivor Branston elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Birmingham FC's Joshua Neville got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Joshua Neville had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sam Gold came out of the goal in the 82nd minute to try and stop a shot by Birmingham FC's Alf Winterburn. But to his dismay, Alf Winterburn quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Fitz Probert kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Rodney Peakman blasted a shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Liam Bannister having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodney Peakman in the 90th minute of play forced Birmingham FC's goalkeeper Liam Bannister to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sam Gold made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alf Winterburn in the 92nd minute. Alf Winterburn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sam Gold having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Westbury-sub-Mendip's zone, Joshua Neville stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sam Gold came out of the goal and Joshua Neville tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Birmingham FC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
