Kingsbridge Park
Spectators: 6723 (Terracing: 5000,
Seating: 1723, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Stew Ellershaw took the kick off in the first half of the match. If Stew Ellershaw had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Batley fans' excitement grew in the 10th match minute when Batley's Rory Silvester looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 12th minute Stew Ellershaw shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Martyn Fowler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th minute, Stew Ellershaw ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Martyn Fowler was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. A collision led to Kingsbridge getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Quentin Bateman hit a great ball. Neil Barton made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dom Dodd in the 21st minute. Martyn Fowler made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stew Ellershaw in the 24th minute of play. If Dom Dodd had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Darryl Parks had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Batley's Neil Barton played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Darryl Parks in the 29th minute of play. 34 minutes into the match, Stew Ellershaw had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Martyn Fowler. Kingsbridge's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Stew Ellershaw was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. 39 minutes into the match, Kingsbridge's goal looked a bit too open when Carl Buckle came free, but Martyn Fowler reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 41st minute, Rory Silvester got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Kingsbridge's Martyn Fowler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stew Ellershaw in the 43rd minute of play. In the 45th minute Stew Ellershaw shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Martyn Fowler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Quentin Bateman during the 48th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 47 minutes into the game, one of Kingsbridge:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Rex Cullen shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
When Clive Quantrill fell near the penalty area in the 57th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kingsbridge's protests and gave Clive Quantrill a yellow card for diving instead. In the 57th minute, Clive Quantrill hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Darryl Parks recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 63 minutes into the game, Anthony Courtney was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Batley's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Kingsbridge the free kick. The supporters of Batley booed when Kingsbridge was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Keanu Bromley didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Clive Quantrill was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 77 minutes had been played. Clive Quantrill hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. Rex Cullen was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 78th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Dom Dodd sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kingsbridge's Martyn Fowler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stew Ellershaw in the 84th minute of play. When Stew Ellershaw came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Batley fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Stew Ellershaw couldn't finish the play. Rory Silvester was extremely unlucky when he, in the 93rd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Stew Ellershaw fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Martyn Fowler having to interfere.
