Leroy Barfield's late challenge caught a Newthorpe United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Leroy Barfield helped the player get up and apologised. In the 5th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newthorpe United's goalkeeper Leroy Vickers, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 8th minute, Christopher Reid made a precise shot to the right of Archie Woodhouse. Hockley City's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in Newthorpe United's zone, Ivor Machin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leroy Vickers came out of the goal and Ivor Machin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 21st minute, Ivor Machin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ted Le Tissier hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Hockley City's Robbie Morris couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Newthorpe United. Through an outstanding action, after 25 minutes, Archie Woodhouse successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 29 minutes into the game, Freddie Dalby was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Newthorpe United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Hockley City the free kick. Robbie Morris placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! Leroy Barfield fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leroy Vickers having to interfere. After 35 played minutes, Hockley City's Doug Lobb shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Leroy Vickers came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Hockley City reached it. Leroy Vickers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ivor Machin, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. In the 39th minute, Ivor Machin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Leroy Barfield received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Leroy Vickers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ryan Gill could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Archie Woodhouse made a huge save. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.
The wind increased when Christopher Reid made the kick off in the second half. An unexpected shot in the 51st minute by Ivor Machin got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. If Felix Seagrave had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Christopher Reid sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 65th match minute, Hockley City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Seagrave to maneuver through the defense. If Christopher Reid had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Ryan Gill's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Archie Woodhouse read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. Archie Woodhouse showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ryan Gill in the 72nd minute of the match. In the 73rd minute, Christopher Reid got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 77th minute Leroy Barfield shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leroy Vickers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 78th minute, Leroy Barfield got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 80th match minute, Newthorpe United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Freddie Dalby to maneuver through the defense. Ryan Gill received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Archie Woodhouse tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew the final whistle, Newthorpe United could leave the field as winners, despite Hockley City having more of the ball for most of the match.
