In the 36th minute Mick Buxton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ricky Akins saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Robert Broadhead had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jez Giles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robert Broadhead in the 45th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Kristian Elliott managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cowplain's supporters rose to their feet, but Kristian Elliott was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ricky Akins breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Kristian Elliott received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. With a little luck, Cowplain's Jez Giles got control of the ball when Robert Broadhead tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 77 minutes, Mick Buxton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cowplain's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mick Buxton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 78 played minutes Prescot got a freekick which was hit by Kieran Clare. After 79 played minutes Cowplain got a freekick which was hit by Kristian Elliott. If Kristian Elliott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jez Giles made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Robert Broadhead sent off a good shot on target. In the 89th minute the ball was on its way in behind Prescot's goalkeeper Ricky Akins, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ricky Akins showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mick Buxton, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. After 97 minutes of play, Cowplain's Kristian Elliott made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ricky Akins was left in no man's land by his defense there! The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Cowplain had won after a very even match.
