An unexpectedly hard shot by Graham Kellaway in the 19th minute of play forced Heckmondwike's goalkeeper Ronan Bradbury to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Trev Gardener fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sutton Valence's protests and gave Trev Gardener a yellow card for diving instead. Trev Gardener kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. Jim Markham showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felix Bates in the 42nd minute of the match. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Theo Armitage was the one to do the kick off. Abraham Fry received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Jim Markham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Felix Bates spun around in front of the goal 54 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Sutton Valence's goal. After 57 minutes, Theo Fairs mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sutton Valence and the Heckmondwike players grew even worse after the yellow card. Theo Fairs kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. Ronan Bradbury made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Graham Kellaway sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Sutton Valence booed when Heckmondwike was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Andre Denham didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Abraham Fry in the 80th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jim Markham prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Sutton Valence booed when Heckmondwike was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Harry Vaughn didn't get a good kick on the ball. 86 minutes into the match, Sutton Valence's Trev Gardener broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. With 93 minutes on the clock, Charles Briant commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After 93 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Heckmondwike! The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
