After 18 minutes, Richie Abbotts made it 2-0 with a short kick to the right side. Weaverham's Blair Garrett tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Blair Garrett dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. Blair Garrett made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Malcolm Smikle sent off a good shot on target. In the 36th match minute, Grimsby Town was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Richie Abbotts to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Malcolm Smikle got free with Blair Garrett in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Grimsby Town's Ruslan Alekseev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ritchie Mortimer in the 44th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Syd Horner stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Grimsby Town's Zane Morse got a free kick in the 51st minute. Spike Steele lost his temper 53 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 59th minute of the game. One of Weaverham:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Grimsby Town:s goal. Richie Abbotts fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Blair Garrett having to interfere. Blair Garrett stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Richie Abbotts's shot from short distance in the 73rd minute. Lawrence Tomkin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Blair Garrett took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Richie Abbotts, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet as Syd Horner kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ruslan Alekseev. That made the score 3-2 in the 83 minute of play. Richie Abbotts received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Blair Garrett tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Zane Morse managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grimsby Town's supporters rose to their feet, but Zane Morse was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Blair Garrett breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Grimsby Town's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
