Spectators: 6707 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1707, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Gordon Foster took the kick off in the first half of the match. If Gordon Foster had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 5 minutes into the game, Sammy Wright cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Jonathon Neville was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Tristram Whiteley hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. 9 minutes into the match, Hoylake's Alex Adamson broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Silvester Blackwell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gordon Foster, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 19 minutes had been played when some careless play by Hoylake's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Dylan Hopkinson was slow to take the kick. During this time Sawtry's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Tristram Whiteley got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Silvester Blackwell quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Jonathon Neville showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Scott Blacknell in the 21st minute of the match. Jonathon Neville didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Sammy Wright went, in the 22nd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Laurence Longstaffe had several of the Hoylake's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 32 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-2 score and a disappointed Silvester Blackwell as he didn't even see the shot coming. When Scott Blacknell came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Hoylake fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Scott Blacknell couldn't finish the play. In the 38th minute Sammy Wright shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathon Neville saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gordon Foster fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Silvester Blackwell having to interfere. Tod Ross charged in rather forcefully in the 45th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Tod Ross the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Tod Ross hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Scott Blacknell stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Sawtry's Jonathon Neville proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Sawtry from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Sawtry's Jonathon Neville got control of the ball when Sammy Wright tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rex Edmunds hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Sammy Wright struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Jonathon Neville didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hoylake. After a defensive mix-up in Sawtry's zone, Scott Blacknell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathon Neville came out of the goal and Scott Blacknell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Laurence Longstaffe received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Silvester Blackwell tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jonathon Neville showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Scott Blacknell, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. Laurence Longstaffe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 75thth minute of the game Laurence Longstaffe who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hoylake's Silvester Blackwell was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Scott Blacknell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Through an outstanding action, after 82 minutes, Jonathon Neville successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Sammy Wright fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathon Neville having to interfere. 87 minutes into the game, Garry Cheetham was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sawtry's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Hoylake the free kick. Garry Cheetham hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. 92 minutes into the match, Sawtry's goal looked a bit too open when Scott Blacknell came free, but Jonathon Neville reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jonathon Neville didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Sammy Wright went, in the 94th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Hoylake walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
