In the 3rd minute, Alexander Basterfield left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Thatcham AFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 6 minutes into the match, Hoylake's goal looked a bit too open when Alexander Basterfield came free, but Silvester Blackwell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 10th minute, James Harper hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 12th minute, Sammy Wright got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 15th match minute, Thatcham AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alexander Basterfield to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Scott Blacknell in the 17th minute of play forced Thatcham AFC's goalkeeper Stuart Best to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Hoylake booed when Thatcham AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tyrone Brazier didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 40th minute Scott Blacknell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stuart Best saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hoylake's Scott Blacknell got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The wind increased when Scott Blacknell made the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the match, Hoylake's goalkeeper Silvester Blackwell had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by James Harper. 58 minutes into the game, Alistair Kerr was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hoylake's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Thatcham AFC the free kick. In the 59th match minute, Hoylake was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alistair Kerr to maneuver through the defense. Silvester Blackwell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alexander Basterfield in the 62nd minute of play. After 62 played minutes Hoylake got a freekick which was hit by Hugh Wilmott. James Harper could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Silvester Blackwell made a huge save. Alexander Basterfield sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 68th minute, Jeffrey Osbourne got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 72 minutes into the match, Hoylake's goalkeeper Silvester Blackwell had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by James Harper. In the 72nd minute, James Harper reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Silvester Blackwell. The goal made the score 0-2. In the 75th minute of the match, James Harper got a very nice opportunity to score, but Silvester Blackwell was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After a rather tough play, Hoylake's Alistair Kerr got a free kick in the 76th minute. James Harper fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Silvester Blackwell having to interfere. Stuart Best made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sammy Wright in the 88th minute of play. Silvester Blackwell made a fantastic save in the 94th minute, when James Harper sent off a good shot on target. The Hoylake supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Thatcham AFC's performance. The match ended with a win for Thatcham AFC.
