Frank Ridsdale tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 6 minutes into the match, Lymm's goalkeeper Frank Ridsdale had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Damien Moody. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Syd Pell in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Frank Ridsdale saved Lymm from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Sutton in Ashfield's Sam Granger got a free kick in the 15th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 19th minute, William Atkins managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lymm's supporters rose to their feet, but William Atkins was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edward Lloyd breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Sutton in Ashfield booed when Lymm was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lewis Kearney didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lymm's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ian Midson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With his leg Edward Lloyd managed to avoid a goal in the 58thth minute, when Lymm's William Atkins fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side.
