Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Marlon Lynch started the match with the kick off. In the 9th minute Phillip Fairfax shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Keith Gold saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rowan Meadowcroft who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 13thth minute tested the skills of Dom Woods when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 13th minute, Danny Christensen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dom Woods showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marlon Lynch in the 15th minute of the match. 20 minutes into the game, Morpeth's Phillip Fairfax nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Keith Gold made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Martyn Symons got free with Dom Woods in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Perry Wybrow had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 34th minute of the match Morpeth got a corner. Formby's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. George Fry ran over to the corner to take the kick. Russ Dobson thought of kicking away a contribution in front of goal but messed it up so badly that the ball went to the right of an astonished Keith Gold, a very annoying self made goal in the 35th minute which led to 0-2. If Martyn Symons had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Keith Gold showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Perry Wybrow, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. In the 46th match minute, Morpeth was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Shawn Sheringham to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Phillip Fairfax stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Marlon Lynch scored 1-2 in the 53rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dom Woods, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After having played for 59 minutes, Marlon Lynch managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Formby's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marlon Lynch was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 60th match minute, Morpeth was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eddy Kearney to maneuver through the defense. Marlon Lynch's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dom Woods read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 61st minute of play. A collision led to Morpeth getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Danny Christensen hit a great ball. 67 minutes into the match, Formby's goal looked a bit too open when Phillip Fairfax came free, but Keith Gold reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dom Woods came out of the goal in the 69th minute to try and stop a shot by Formby's Martyn Symons. But to his dismay, Martyn Symons quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. The supporters of Formby booed when Morpeth was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Danny Christensen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Formby's Freddie Bloom couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Morpeth. Rowan Meadowcroft hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. Dom Woods made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martyn Symons in the 81st minute of play. 84 minutes into the match, Formby's Marlon Lynch sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dom Woods narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Marlon Lynch came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Formby fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marlon Lynch couldn't finish the play. Perry Wybrow sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Marlon Lynch managed to get in a good position for a shot. Formby's supporters rose to their feet, but Marlon Lynch was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dom Woods breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 93rdth minute of the game Martyn Symons who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Morpeth's Dom Woods was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Keith Gold stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Phillip Fairfax's shot from short distance in the 95th minute.
