Gordon Mansfield didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Alton. In the 26th match minute, Clacton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Christopher Walton to maneuver through the defense. Noel Purvis's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gordon Mansfield read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Gordon Mansfield made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Noel Purvis in the 35th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Clacton's Calvin Furniss got a free kick in the 37th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Noel Purvis in the 39th minute of play forced Clacton's goalkeeper Gordon Mansfield to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ben Bullock sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Alton getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Kenny Emmerson hit a great ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Ben Bullock kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Rupert Kearney. That made the score 1-0 in the 48 minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dylon Talbot was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute Ben Bullock shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rupert Kearney saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 62 minutes into the game, Dylon Talbot cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Rupert Kearney was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Cliff Summerfield sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 68thth minute of the game Noel Purvis who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Clacton's Gordon Mansfield was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 69 minutes of play, Alton's Kenny Emmerson made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gordon Mansfield was left in no man's land by his defense there! Noel Purvis struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. In the 98th minute, Clacton's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Noel Purvis fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Clacton had won after a very even match.
