The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the match, Phoenix Football Club's goalkeeper Neil East had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rupert Downs. Philip Duckworth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 13 minutes, Ivan Willets mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Phoenix Football Club and the Skipton AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Skipton AFC booed when Phoenix Football Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivan Willets didn't get a good kick on the ball. Shaun Medlin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ivan Willets in the 16th minute of the match. In the 18th match minute, Skipton AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dale Pilkington to maneuver through the defense. When Philip Duckworth came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Phoenix Football Club fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Philip Duckworth couldn't finish the play. Shaun Medlin came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by Phoenix Football Club's Pierce Lundy. But to his dismay, Pierce Lundy quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. After 30 played minutes Skipton AFC got a freekick which was hit by Mike Jackson. In the 32nd minute, David Dewhirst made a precise shot to the right of Shaun Medlin. Skipton AFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. If Philip Duckworth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Pierce Lundy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Shaun Medlin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pierce Lundy in the 38th minute of the match. Russ Granville sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Skipton AFC's Shaun Medlin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pierce Lundy in the 41st minute of play. 43 minutes into the game, Pierce Lundy cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Shaun Medlin was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Phoenix Football Club were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Philip Duckworth stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Russ Granville fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Shaun Medlin having to interfere. Shaun Medlin didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Philip Duckworth went, in the 60th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-4 was the resulting score. Shaun Medlin was out of position in the 63 minute of play, and Russ Granville capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Russ Granville really showed his touch with that goal: 0-5. Philip Duckworth was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 67th minute. Phoenix Football Club's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. With a little luck, Skipton AFC's Shaun Medlin got control of the ball when Ivan Willets tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Philip Duckworth managed to get in a good position for a shot. Phoenix Football Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Philip Duckworth was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Shaun Medlin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If CJ Allott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 76th minute, Ivan Willets managed to get in a good position for a shot. Phoenix Football Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Ivan Willets was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Shaun Medlin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Phoenix Football Club's Philip Duckworth got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Russ Granville had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 84 minutes, CJ Allott managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Phoenix Football Club's supporters crossed their fingers, but CJ Allott was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Shaun Medlin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Russ Granville, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pierce Lundy got free with Shaun Medlin in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 93rd minute Philip Duckworth shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Shaun Medlin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Owen Rowe kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Shaun Medlin. That made the score 0-6 in the 96 minute of play. When the match was over Phoenix Football Club could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Skipton AFC throughout the match.
