The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Fraser Walsh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rueben Krief having to interfere. Steve Titmuss showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Rusk in the 8th minute of the match. Steve Titmuss made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Sonny Gibbs sent off a good shot on target. If Sonny Gibbs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Steve Titmuss took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Geoff Dunning, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Geoff Dunning in the 18th minute of play forced All Star XI's goalkeeper Steve Titmuss to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 21 minutes into the match, All Star XI's goal looked a bit too open when Geoff Dunning came free, but Steve Titmuss reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Earby fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. In the 41st minute Geoff Dunning shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Steve Titmuss saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 44 played minutes All Star XI got a freekick which was hit by Mitch Land. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

All Star XI's Steve Titmuss played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Rusk in the 52nd minute of play. In the 54th minute, Earby's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Fraser Walsh fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post.
