The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sid Kearney during the 12th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of The Boys booed when Stansted was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sid Kearney didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gösta Frisck in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Wes Byrom saved Stansted from getting behind. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bruno Rodrigues made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sid Kearney in the 20th minute. Bruno Rodrigues took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cliff Botham, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Craig Pearce hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Bruno Rodrigues showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Brendon Edmunds, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. In the 32nd match minute, Stansted was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Connor Berry to maneuver through the defense. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Brendon Edmunds made a kick off. Gösta Frisck got in the 61st a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Wes Byrom handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Stansted's zone, Steven Gettins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wes Byrom came out of the goal and Steven Gettins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bruno Rodrigues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brendon Edmunds in the 69th minute of play. In the 75th minute Steven Gettins shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wes Byrom saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 76 minutes into the match, Stansted's goal looked a bit too open when Gösta Frisck came free, but Wes Byrom reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Craig Pearce had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gösta Frisck received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Wes Byrom tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gösta Frisck sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The Boys played a much better game than Stansted and deserved their victory. The Stansted players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
