Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Brendon Edmunds started the match with the kick off. 3 minutes into the match, Brynn Hume notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Stansted's Wes Byrom. Wes Byrom was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sid Kearney in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Trey Rowett saved Basildon from getting behind. Brendon Edmunds sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as Basildon's Junior Deveraux slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Wes Byrom. That made the score 2-0 after 31 minutes of play. Junior Deveraux received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Wes Byrom came out and tried to block the shot, but Junior Deveraux slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 37th minute. Wes Byrom made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Junior Deveraux in the 41st minute of play. If Junior Deveraux had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 44th match minute, Stansted was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cliff Botham to maneuver through the defense. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Junior Deveraux stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pierre Edgson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Trey Rowett tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 53rd minute, Blair Small hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Junior Deveraux's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wes Byrom read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. Wes Byrom took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Junior Deveraux, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Junior Deveraux had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 70th minute, Sid Kearney made a precise shot to the right of Trey Rowett. Basildon's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. Ronnie Mansfield hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Ricky Routledge, 74 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal.
