The supporters of Alwinton AFC booed when Northampton Saints was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mattias Hargraves didn't get a good kick on the ball. 5 minutes into the match, Northampton Saints's goal looked a bit too open when Glen Leather came free, but Ty Slater reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Northampton Saints's Ty Slater played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stew Drysdale in the 13th minute of play. Northampton Saints's Darius Blewett suffered a torn muscle in his foot after 18 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Northampton Saints's John-Paul Venables was substituted for Darius Blewett. After a rather tough play, Alwinton AFC's Jeffrey Pennant got a free kick in the 20th minute. In the 22nd minute, Lance Stone hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, John-Paul Venables managed to get in a good position for a shot. Northampton Saints's supporters rose to their feet, but John-Paul Venables was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zackary Hehir breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Andy Rusk during the 26th minute. After 27 played minutes Alwinton AFC got a freekick which was hit by Andy Rusk. 28 minutes into the match, Alwinton AFC's goal looked a bit too open when John-Paul Venables came free, but Zackary Hehir reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ty Slater showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Stew Drysdale in the 32nd minute of the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The wind increased when Glen Leather made the kick off in the second half. Stew Drysdales short, quick shot in the 53rdth minute got Ty Slater to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Rio McGrath recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 55th minute Mattias Hargraves suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. When Trevor Hassell fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Alwinton AFC's protests and gave Trevor Hassell a yellow card for diving instead. Northampton Saints made a substitution. Stephen Woolcock replaced Mattias Hargraves. After 58 played minutes Alwinton AFC got a freekick which was hit by Trevor Hassell. In the 59th minute, Rio McGrath got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ty Slater showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Glen Leather in the 60th minute of the match. In the 62nd minute Glen Leather shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ty Slater saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Stew Drysdale could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Ty Slater made a huge save. Ty Slater showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Glen Leather, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Ty Slater made an important save on a dangerous shot by Andy Rusk in the 67th minute. 71 minutes into the game, Northampton Saints's Rio McGrath nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Zackary Hehir made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. When the match had gone on for 76 minutes, Glen Leather took a quick shot and it went in 3-2 without a chance for Ty Slater to make any attempt to save it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Glen Leather in the 82nd minute of play forced Northampton Saints's goalkeeper Ty Slater to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 86th minute, Glen Leather reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Ty Slater. The goal made the score 3-3. John-Paul Venables sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 94th minute Rio McGrath shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zackary Hehir saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alwinton AFC's Glen Leather got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
