The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Cirencester United defense, Ivor Orchard kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Kelvin Brennan. The Cirencester United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kelvin Brennan should have stopped the shot. Teddy Carlick hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. Cirencester United's Roy Garner-Currie got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 21 minutes into the game, Roy Garner-Currie recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Steve Forrester. Roy Garner-Currie showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. With 27 minutes on the clock, Damian Gilroy commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 26th minute, one of Cirencester United:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Cirencester United. Kelvin Brennan went to the wrong direction when Philip Constantine was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Keith Aiston received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Steve Forrester tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 31 minutes into the game, Keith Aiston was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cirencester United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Bletchingley City the free kick. A collision led to Cirencester United getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Keith Aiston hit a great ball. In the 34th minute Tim Whitmore shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kelvin Brennan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Neil Rowe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as Keith Aiston kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Steve Forrester. That made the score 2-1 in the 47 minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Ivor Orchard made the kick off in the second half. Bletchingley City's Steve Forrester played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Keith Aiston in the 54th minute of play. The supporters of Cirencester United booed when Bletchingley City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Basil Meade didn't get a good kick on the ball. Brynn Rawson hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Bletchingley City's Tim Whitmore got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 72nd minute, Ivor Orchard got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bletchingley City's Steve Forrester played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Keith Aiston in the 76th minute of play. Cirencester United's Keith Aiston got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Kelvin Brennan made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Ivor Orchard sent off a good shot on target. Ivor Orchard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. The supporters of Bletchingley City booed when Cirencester United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rich Higgins didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bletchingley City's Terry Ambrose couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 97th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Cirencester United. Cirencester United were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest.
