Wanborough's Barney Halliday played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bart Rhodes in the 5th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rupert Roy during the 6th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Wanborough's Rupert Roy got a free kick in the 6th minute. Wanborough's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Jonathon Rushmere 7 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-0. If Jonathon Rushmere had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Rupert Roy got his second yellow card in the match during the 13th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. The supporters of Newbury booed when Wanborough was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rupert Roy didn't get a good kick on the ball. Barney Halliday took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jonathon Rushmere, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 24 minutes, Tommy Senior mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Wanborough and the Newbury players grew even worse after the yellow card. Tommy Senior hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Wanborough's Barney Halliday played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jonathon Rushmere in the 29th minute of play. When Newbury's Jonathon Rushmere in 31 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Barney Halliday guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. In the 32ndth minute of the game Jonathon Rushmere who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Wanborough's Barney Halliday was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Freddie Beadel hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. 41 minutes into the match, Jonathon Rushmere notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Wanborough's Barney Halliday. Barney Halliday was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Conal Hehir kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

52 minutes into the match, Wanborough's goal looked a bit too open when Jonathon Rushmere came free, but Barney Halliday reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Barney Halliday took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jonathon Rushmere, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 63rdth minute of the game Jonathon Rushmere who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Wanborough's Barney Halliday was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Owen Newland recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Newbury made a substitution. Ben Dalton replaced Jonathon Rushmere. After a rather tough play, Wanborough's Conal Hehir got a free kick in the 69th minute. Ben Dalton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 74th minute, Denis Beesley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ben Dalton in the 75th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Barney Halliday saved Wanborough from getting behind. Orson Cheswick made an important save on a dangerous shot by Conal Hehir in the 76th minute. The supporters of Newbury booed when Wanborough was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tommy Senior didn't get a good kick on the ball. 86 minutes into the match, Newbury's goal looked a bit too open when Owen Newland came free, but Orson Cheswick reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Newbury's Ben Dalton got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
