But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Casey Billington couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the Ashbourne FC defense, Sid Simms kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alf Fletcher. The Ashbourne FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alf Fletcher should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jake Newton in the 34th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alf Fletcher saved Ashbourne FC from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, David Renwick managed to get in a good position for a shot. Durham FC's supporters rose to their feet, but David Renwick was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alf Fletcher breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Marty Woodford took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nigel Bland, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jake Newton who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 40thth minute tested the skills of Alf Fletcher when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 44th minute, Sid Simms ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Alf Fletcher was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. In the 48th minute, Kyle Dimmock reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Alf Fletcher. The goal made the score 4-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jake Newton made a kick off. Alf Fletcher made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jake Newton in the 55th minute of play. Sid Simms took the ball and in the 58 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Alf Fletcher. Alf Fletcher dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-0. Alf Fletcher took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jake Newton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 67thth minute of the game Jake Newton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ashbourne FC's Alf Fletcher was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 68th minute of the match Durham FC got a corner. Ashbourne FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jake Newton ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Jake Newton got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Alf Fletcher quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Alf Fletcher took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luke Furlong, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alf Fletcher came out of the goal in the 80th minute to try and stop a shot by Durham FC's Sid Simms. But to his dismay, Sid Simms quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 6-0. Alf Fletcher made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sid Simms in the 87th minute of play. Durham FC's Jake Newton got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Casey Billington came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Durham FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Casey Billington couldn't finish the play. In the 96th minute Jake Newton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alf Fletcher saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Durham FC walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
