If Wally Lynch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 42 minutes into the game, when Piers Bell put in a rough tackle. 41 minutes into the game, one of Ashton Under Hill City:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 44th minute there was a penalty for Great Ayton` FC. Mike Barrett stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Alex Akins. 1-1.

52 minutes into the game, Adam Gettins cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Alex Akins was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Adam Gettins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Ashton Under Hill City's zone, Rod Cookson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alex Akins came out of the goal and Rod Cookson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 60 minutes into the match, Great Ayton` FC's goal looked a bit too open when Wally Lynch came free, but Nathanial Hardcastle reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The tension between the Ashton Under Hill City and the Great Ayton` FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ollie Holroyd hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. When the match had gone on for 76 minutes, Rod Cookson took a quick shot and it went in 2-3 without a chance for Alex Akins to make any attempt to save it. 79 minutes into the game, Great Ayton` FC's Adam Gettins nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alex Akins made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-4. Rod Cookson hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. In the 90th minute, Wally Lynch got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Ashton Under Hill City manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Great Ayton` FC to win.
