The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Kev Foley's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Carl Lambert was relentless in the 3rd minute of the game. Neil Young received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Carl Lambert tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Carl Lambert made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kev Foley in the 10th minute of play. Kev Foley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Carlton Emmerson kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. 24 minutes into the match, Long Hanborough AFC's goalkeeper Lawrence Moss had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Roy Noble. Wigmore United's Carl Lambert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Neil Young in the 26th minute of play. Neil Young recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Neil Young in the 30th minute of play forced Wigmore United's goalkeeper Carl Lambert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Long Hanborough AFC's Lawrence Moss played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jeff Haylock in the 32nd minute of play. Jeff Haylock fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lawrence Moss having to interfere. If Kev Foley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Kev Foley stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute of the match Kirk Lydiate shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Lawrence Moss showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Wigmore United's zone, Neil Young stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carl Lambert came out of the goal and Neil Young tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 55th minute of the match, Kev Foley tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Carl Lambert saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When Robin Wills fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Long Hanborough AFC's protests and gave Robin Wills a yellow card for diving instead. Robin Wills hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Mickey Spencer kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. Neil Young could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 63rd minute of the match, but Carl Lambert made a huge save. Lawrence Moss came out of the goal in the 64th minute to try and stop a shot by Wigmore United's Jeff Haylock. But to his dismay, Jeff Haylock quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Jeff Haylock received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Lawrence Moss tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Long Hanborough AFC's Carlton Emmerson got a free kick in the 70th minute. In the 76th minute, one of Wigmore United:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Wigmore United. Mickey Spencer placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kev Foley in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carl Lambert saved Wigmore United from getting behind. Roy Noble sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. When Marek Whitmore fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wigmore United's protests and gave Marek Whitmore a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Wigmore United booed when Long Hanborough AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Junior Flemming didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wigmore United's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
