Dean Groves made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 22nd minute Niall Marsden shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dean Groves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 23 minutes into the match, Niall Marsden had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dean Groves. Curttannia FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Niall Marsden was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. When Niall Marsden came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Runcornsdf fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Niall Marsden couldn't finish the play. Rob Howard blasted a shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dean Groves having to make a save. Runcornsdf's Callum Bartlett proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save Runcornsdf from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Curttannia FC booed when Runcornsdf was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victor Ottaway didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 43rd minute of the match Johnathon Hilditch sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Callum Bartlett skillfully saved the ball. 46 minutes into the match, Niall Marsden had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dean Groves. Curttannia FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Niall Marsden was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4.

Sean Kennedy's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dean Groves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. In the 57th minute, Curttannia FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Sean Kennedy fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. When the match clock showed 58 minutes, the score became 0-5 when Niall Marsden sped through Curttannia FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Dean Groves. With a little luck, Curttannia FC's Dean Groves got control of the ball when Niall Marsden tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dean Groves came out of the goal in the 64th minute to try and stop a shot by Runcornsdf's Sean Kennedy. But to his dismay, Sean Kennedy quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-6. Runcornsdf's Sean Kennedy got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Runcornsdf's Callum Bartlett played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tristram Goodman in the 76th minute of play. In the 90th minute Sean Kennedy shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dean Groves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 96 minutes into the match, Curttannia FC's goal looked a bit too open when Rob Howard came free, but Dean Groves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match was over Runcornsdf could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Curttannia FC throughout the match.
