The Lincoln City fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sonny Giugno should have stopped the shot. Sonny Giugno made a fantastic save in the 18th minute, when Fraser Canning sent off a good shot on target. In the 20th minute, Lincoln City's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Rupert Coote fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Johnnie Boland received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Olly Tinker tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fraser Canning sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rupert Coote could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Sonny Giugno made a huge save. When Albert Sills came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Lincoln City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Albert Sills couldn't finish the play. In the 47th minute the ball was on its way in behind Lincoln City's goalkeeper Sonny Giugno, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Fraser Canning had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

In the 57th minute of the match Leigh Fleming sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sonny Giugno skillfully saved the ball. When the match had gone on for 60 minutes, Fraser Canning put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Sonny Giugno. In the 65thth minute of the game Rupert Coote who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Lincoln City's Sonny Giugno was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Rupert Coote's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sonny Giugno was relentless in the 67th minute of the game. Sacha Bellamy was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 76th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Newton Aycliffe's Rupert Coote got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Lincoln City booed when Newton Aycliffe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fraser Canning didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fraser Canning fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sonny Giugno having to interfere. Sonny Giugno showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rupert Coote in the 88th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 89 minutes, Fraser Canning put it in 3-0 from a short distance just to the right of Sonny Giugno. There was no doubt that Newton Aycliffe were the better team. Newton Aycliffe's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
