Lance Goodall blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Vince Piercy having to make a save. 32 minutes into the match, South Shields's goal looked a bit too open when Rick Tinker came free, but Vince Piercy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vince Piercy made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rick Tinker in the 43rd minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Neil Slade made the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, South Shields's Vince Piercy got control of the ball when Lance Goodall tried to sneak it across the goal line. With his leg Vince Piercy managed to avoid a goal in the 62ndth minute, when Blackburn City's Lance Goodall fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Vince Piercy showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rick Tinker in the 71st minute of the match. In the 73rd minute Neil Slade shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rupert Barrett saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Stuart Welch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Neil Slade received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Rupert Barrett tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Lance Goodall kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Vince Piercy. That made the score 0-3 in the 81 minute of play. In the 86th minute Rick Tinker shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vince Piercy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Stuart Welch hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. Vince Piercy made a fantastic save in the 91st minute, when Doug Stone sent off a good shot on target. 95 minutes into the match, Rick Tinker dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Vince Piercy, 0-4.
