Barmby on the Marsh
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Gareth Waltham kicked off to start the match. A hard shot 3 in the game by Gareth Waltham from a close distance when the talented Rio Short managed to make a qualified save. Hailsham's players were relieved. After 7 played minutes Hailsham got a freekick which was hit by Martin Braithwaite. Barmby on the Marsh's Roy Harris played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Martin Braithwaite in the 9th minute of play. After 10 played minutes Hailsham got a freekick which was hit by Sid Wardle. Gareth Waltham struck a weak shot in the 11th minute. Rio Short didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Barmby on the Marsh. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Martin Braithwaite in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Roy Harris saved Barmby on the Marsh from getting behind. When Harvey Stone fell near the penalty area in the 14th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hailsham's protests and gave Harvey Stone a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Barmby on the Marsh booed when Hailsham was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Harvey Stone didn't get a good kick on the ball. Roy Harris took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Martin Braithwaite, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Martin Braithwaite in the 18th minute of play forced Barmby on the Marsh's goalkeeper Roy Harris to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Martin Braithwaite's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Roy Harris read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. In the 21st minute of the match Harvey Stone sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Roy Harris skillfully saved the ball. After 22 minutes, Philip McGovern mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Barmby on the Marsh and the Hailsham players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 22 played minutes Barmby on the Marsh got a freekick which was hit by Philip McGovern. The supporters of Barmby on the Marsh booed when Hailsham was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zak Hargreaves didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Zak Hargreaves in the 25th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Roy Harris prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Philip McGovern recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 27th match minute, Hailsham was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gaz Drake to maneuver through the defense. Roy Harris showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zak Hargreaves, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Gareth Waltham fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rio Short having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Martin Braithwaite to make the kick off. Roy Harris made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martin Braithwaite in the 55th minute of play. Gareth Waltham might have been able to make a better finish in the 66th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rio Short. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gareth Waltham ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 78th minute, Hailsham's Martin Braithwaite ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Roy Harris. Roy Harris yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-1. Roy Harris took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Martin Braithwaite, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Roy Harris was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Martin Braithwaite showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 84 minute of play. If Craig Tindale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Philip McGovern sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Rio Short stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Philip McGovern's shot from short distance in the 90th minute. When Philip McGovern came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Barmby on the Marsh fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Philip McGovern couldn't finish the play.
