Dylan Button showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ged Barber, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. 36 minutes into the match, Ged Barber had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dylan Button. Prescot FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ged Barber was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Iain Pollard showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Neil Law in the 43rd minute of the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Prescot FC's Matt Purvis got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 55th minute the ball was on its way in behind Prescot FC's goalkeeper Dylan Button, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matt Purvis in the 57th minute of play forced Sunderland FC's goalkeeper Iain Pollard to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Prescot FC's Neil Law got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
