Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Ged Barber started the match with the kick off. 4 minutes in the game Keiran Halliwell did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Jo Palmer. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jo Palmer got free with Iain Pollard in the 5th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 13 minutes into the game, Piers Pell recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Iain Pollard. Piers Pell showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. In the 24th minute, Piers Pell fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. The supporters of Radcliffe-on-Trent booed when Sunderland FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Johnathan Dixon didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 26th minute, Jo Palmer made a precise shot to the right of Iain Pollard. Sunderland FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. Jo Palmer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Iain Pollard having to interfere. 42 minutes into the game, Ron Odell was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sunderland FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Radcliffe-on-Trent the free kick. Jeff Mellon shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Jo Palmer struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Iain Pollard didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Radcliffe-on-Trent.
Piers Pell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Iain Pollard tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Radcliffe-on-Trent's Silvester Hold got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Iain Pollard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Piers Pell in the 66th minute of play. 69 minutes into the match, Radcliffe-on-Trent's Jo Palmer sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Iain Pollard narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ged Barber struck a weak shot in the 75th minute. Guy Gerrard didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sunderland FC. Iain Pollard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Piers Pell in the 77th minute of play. After 84 minutes, Julian Etherington mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sunderland FC and the Radcliffe-on-Trent players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 86th minute there was a penalty for Radcliffe-on-Trent. Jeff Mellon stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Iain Pollard. 4-0. If Piers Pell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Iain Pollard took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Piers Pell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Sunderland FC's Terry Osmond got a free kick in the 92nd minute. Iain Pollard showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sly Lawton, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. Radcliffe-on-Trent were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Sunderland FC for a fine match.
