In the 7th minute Nicky Neville shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthew Buckley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Phoenix FC's Eddie McAleer got a free kick in the 7th minute. Scarborough's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Duncan Winter in the 10th minute. The corner led Scarborough's Duncan Winter to fire away a dangerous shot which Matthew Buckley despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After 17 played minutes Phoenix FC got a freekick which was hit by Laurence Gates. In the 17th play minute Philip Sherwood came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Matthew Buckley. 1-1. Phoenix FC's Jamal Crouch got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Scarborough booed when Phoenix FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eddie McAleer didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 31st minute Nicky Neville shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthew Buckley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Phoenix FC's zone, Philip Sherwood stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Matthew Buckley came out of the goal and Philip Sherwood tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Stefan Aiston during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Sam Astridge's late challenge caught a Scarborough's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sam Astridge helped the player get up and apologised. Sam Astridge hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Stefan Aiston received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Matthew Buckley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Philip Sherwood sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

After 54 played minutes Phoenix FC got a freekick which was hit by Gareth Jordan. If Keiran Ashton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nicky Neville's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Matthew Buckley read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. After some careless play in the Phoenix FC defense, Nicky Neville kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Matthew Buckley. The Phoenix FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Matthew Buckley should have stopped the shot. Louie Broom made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jamal Crouch in the 77th minute of play. Jamal Crouch could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Louie Broom made a huge save. Nicky Neville took the ball and in the 87 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Matthew Buckley. Matthew Buckley dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-1. Phoenix FC's Keiran Ashton got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 96 minutes into the match, Scarborough's goal looked a bit too open when Keiran Ashton came free, but Louie Broom reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. For all the effort they put into the match, the Phoenix FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Scarborough.
