Gerry Bowland acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 24th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Alfred Guest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Graham Little in the 32nd minute of play forced The Myrmidons's goalkeeper Gerry Bowland to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Andrew Clare sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Andrew Clare got free with Gerry Bowland in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind The Myrmidons's goalkeeper Gerry Bowland, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Gerry Bowland showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Graham Little, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. If Howard Jump had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 49th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Graham Little was the one to do the kick off. After 54 played minutes The Myrmidons got a freekick which was hit by Will Blakeley. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Andrew Clare managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dolton City's supporters rose to their feet, but Andrew Clare was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gerry Bowland breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Andrew Clare's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gerry Bowland was relentless in the 56th minute of the game. The Myrmidons's Gerry Bowland played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andrew Clare in the 60th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Graham Little in the 76th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gerry Bowland prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 80 minutes into the match, Dolton City's goalkeeper Kirk McCormick had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Reg Jepson. Gerry Bowland showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Perry Burgess, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Perry Burgess's late challenge caught a The Myrmidons's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Perry Burgess helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Dolton City getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Jamie Gibbs hit a great ball. A hard shot by Damian Bowe from long distance, 89 minutes into the match, got Kirk McCormick's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Andrew Clare struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Gerry Bowland didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dolton City.
