But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tyler Whittaker couldn't finish the play. Silvester Byrom made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hugh Byrom in the 27th minute of play. In the 32nd minute of the match Bedlington got a corner. The Clarets's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Malcolm Hayes ran over to the corner to take the kick. The Clarets's defense didn't have a chance, in the 34th minute, when Bob Hughes scored to the left of an out of position Shane Verity, making the score, 1-2. With a little luck, The Clarets's Shane Verity got control of the ball when Tyler Whittaker tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind The Clarets's goalkeeper Shane Verity, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Tyler Whittaker could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Shane Verity made a huge save. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bob Hughes in the 68th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Shane Verity prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Bedlington fans' excitement grew in the 68th match minute when Bedlington's Bob Hughes looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Tyler Whittaker struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Shane Verity didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bedlington. The audience thought a goal was coming when Toby Slater got free with Silvester Byrom in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Shane Verity showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daryl Pool in the 83rd minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Bob Hughes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Shane Verity was relentless in the 86th minute of the game.
