Quentin Ellis's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kyle Barraclough read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. If Zak Jones had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kyle Barraclough showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Quentin Ellis, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. In the 38th minute, Quentin Ellis ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Kyle Barraclough was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. southport fc were furious when James Folan was red carded, 42 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 41st minute, one of southport fc:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for southport fc. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Zak Jones in the 48th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kyle Barraclough saved LIVERPOOL FC from getting behind. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The crowd rose to their feet as southport fc's Rueben Niven slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Kyle Barraclough. That made the score 1-2 after 52 minutes of play. Cody Medley's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kyle Barraclough read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 58th minute of play.
