Leigh Woolford showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gwyn Carlisle, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. In the 8th minute, Benfica's Adrian Goodall dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gwyn Carlisle in the 10th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Leigh Woolford prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After having played for 12 minutes, Ash Margarson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Benfica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ash Margarson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dagenham's Fitz Clarkson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Seth Medlin in the 16th minute of play. 19 minutes into the match, Dagenham's goal looked a bit too open when Adrian Goodall came free, but Fitz Clarkson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Adrian Goodall who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 24thth minute tested the skills of Fitz Clarkson when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 26 minutes into the match, Zane Smikle had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Leigh Woolford. Benfica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Zane Smikle was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 30th minute, Gwyn Carlisle left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Dagenham fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Gwyn Beesley kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. In the 39th minute Gwyn Carlisle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leigh Woolford saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adrian Goodall in the 40th minute of play forced Dagenham's goalkeeper Fitz Clarkson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fitz Clarkson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adrian Goodall in the 42nd minute of the match. 47 minutes into the match, Dagenham's Robert Kearney sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Leigh Woolford narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-3 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Adrian Goodall to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adrian Goodall in the 54th minute of play forced Dagenham's goalkeeper Fitz Clarkson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 56th minute, Zane Smikle made a precise shot to the right of Leigh Woolford. Benfica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-4. Leigh Woolford was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Robert Kearney showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-5 in the 59 minute of play. After 64 played minutes Dagenham got a freekick which was hit by Joshua Dowrick. If Gwyn Carlisle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Fitz Clarkson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Adrian Goodall went, in the 80th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-5 was the resulting score. Dagenham's Robert Kearney quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Jacob Brownlow, made in the 83rd minute of the game. Fitz Clarkson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adrian Goodall, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Benfica's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Gwyn Carlisle 90 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 3-6. The Dagenham players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
