In the 3rd minute, Mickey Parkin ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ross Westlake was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. CJ Winehouse's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ross Westlake read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 11th minute of play. Holton-le-Clay FC's Bob Simms proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Holton-le-Clay FC from getting a goal against them. Ross Westlake made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mickey Parkin in the 19th minute of play. If Mickey Parkin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. CJ Winehouse fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ross Westlake having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Kasey Potter managed to get in a good position for a shot. spurs city's supporters rose to their feet, but Kasey Potter was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bob Simms breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 28th minute CJ Winehouse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ross Westlake saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Marty Blackburn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marty Blackburn who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 47thth minute tested the skills of Bob Simms when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After the first half Holton-le-Clay FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Mickey Parkin made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Laurence Weeks hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bob Simms took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marty Blackburn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kasey Potter's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bob Simms read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 58th minute of play. In the 60th minute, Kasey Potter got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ross Westlake made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mickey Parkin in the 65th minute of play. In the 66th minute, Sean Maston hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 67th minute of the game, Stuart Clark landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. CJ Winehouse hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. In the 70th minute, Holton-le-Clay FC's Mickey Parkin ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ross Westlake. Ross Westlake yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Marty Blackburn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bob Simms having to interfere. When Mickey Parkin came up free with the goalie in the 76th minute, the Holton-le-Clay FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mickey Parkin couldn't finish the play. After 79 played minutes spurs city got a freekick which was hit by Vic Moss. Marty Blackburn sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Holton-le-Clay FC's Bob Simms played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marty Blackburn in the 94th minute of play. In the 96th minute Marty Blackburn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bob Simms saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
