The Heybridge Basin United fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. If Freddie Houghton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Justin Hilton made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Dale Peakman sent off a good shot on target. Justin Hilton made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ronny Fish in the 12th minute. 14 minutes into the match, Newbiggin FC's goalkeeper Justin Hilton had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dale Peakman. An unexpected shot in the 19th minute by Dale Peakman got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After some careless play in the Newbiggin FC defense, Phillip Allanson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Justin Hilton. The Newbiggin FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Justin Hilton should have stopped the shot. When Sebastien Rush fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Newbiggin FC's protests and gave Sebastien Rush a yellow card for diving instead. After 23 played minutes Newbiggin FC got a freekick which was hit by Sebastien Rush. Heybridge Basin United's Dale Peakman got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Justin Hilton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Byron Cotton in the 26th minute of play. 33 minutes into the match, Freddie Houghton dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Justin Hilton, 3-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Freddie Houghton in the 43rd minute of play forced Newbiggin FC's goalkeeper Justin Hilton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With an all-out effort, Heybridge Basin United's Justin Hilton threw himself towards the right post 48 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Freddie Houghton, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Freddie Houghton to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Newbiggin FC's goal looked a bit too open when Byron Cotton came free, but Justin Hilton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 54th minute, Freddie Houghton made a precise shot to the right of Justin Hilton. Newbiggin FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. In the 56th minute, Conal Jepson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 58 minutes into the match, Newbiggin FC's goal looked a bit too open when Freddie Houghton came free, but Justin Hilton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 60th match minute, Newbiggin FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Conal Jepson to maneuver through the defense. In the 61st minute, Dale Peakman got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Justin Hilton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Freddie Houghton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 64th minute Freddie Houghton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Justin Hilton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 65th minute, Dale Peakman got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 70 minutes into the match, Dale Peakman notched a goal, 6-0, to the right of Newbiggin FC's Justin Hilton. Justin Hilton was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 78 minutes into the match, Freddie Houghton had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Justin Hilton. Newbiggin FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Freddie Houghton was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 7-0. A collision led to Newbiggin FC getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Bill Portway hit a great ball. After having played for 85 minutes, Dale Peakman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Heybridge Basin United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dale Peakman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Dale Peakman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Freddie Houghton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Newbiggin FC's Justin Hilton played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronny Fish in the 91st minute of play. Dale Peakman recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. For all the effort they put into the match, the Newbiggin FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Heybridge Basin United.
