Perry Bowden fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon Topham having to interfere. Chip Woodcock's late challenge caught a Walsall's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Chip Woodcock helped the player get up and apologised. After 8 played minutes Malmesbury got a freekick which was hit by Chip Woodcock. Brendon Topham took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Perry Bowden, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Perry Bowden received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Brendon Topham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 24th minute, Howard Alsford ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Brendon Topham was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. In the 29th match minute, Malmesbury was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jermaine Pollock to maneuver through the defense. Vince Fenwick received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Lance Orchard tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Jasper Doughty had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 45th match minute, Malmesbury was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jasper Doughty to maneuver through the defense. Howard Alsford sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Perry Bowden made a kick off. Perry Bowden's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brendon Topham read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. Malmesbury's Brendon Topham played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Perry Bowden in the 58th minute of play. If Howard Alsford had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Howard Alsford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Brendon Topham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Perry Bowden fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon Topham having to interfere. Brendon Topham showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Perry Bowden, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Brendon Topham took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Howard Alsford, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Perry Bowden had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Perry Bowden succeeded in the game's 75th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 2-0. 84 minutes into the match, Walsall's goalkeeper Lance Orchard had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Billie Clayson. Vince Fenwick recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 88 minutes, Jasper Doughty managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Malmesbury's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jasper Doughty was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Malmesbury booed when Walsall was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stuart Welsh didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Vince Fenwick had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brendon Topham made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Perry Bowden in the 95th minute of play. Perry Bowden fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon Topham having to interfere. For all the effort they put into the match, the Malmesbury players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Walsall.
