The audience was convinced that James Lyons's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rod Sills was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Gus Preece took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Junior Weir to make any attempt to save it. In the 26th minute, Thomas Bakewell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Felix Jones hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Junior Weir didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rob McGrath went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Leyton Orient F.C.. 38 minutes into the game, Gus Preece recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Junior Weir. Gus Preece showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 4-0. 45 minutes into the match, Shaftsbury's goal looked a bit too open when Donald Webb came free, but Rod Sills reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gus Preece received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Junior Weir tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 48th minute, Rob McGrath managed to get in a good position for a shot. Shaftsbury's supporters rose to their feet, but Rob McGrath was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Junior Weir breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Donald Webb stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
