The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nath Storry during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind Bootle United's goalkeeper Rhys Brearley, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Nath Storry had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Rhys Brearley made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. For all the effort they put into the match, the Bootle United players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Gateshead.
