The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Real Madrid C.F. booed when Cirencester was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marty Shipton didn't get a good kick on the ball. 5 minutes into the match, Real Madrid C.F.'s Jim Hedley broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Garth Newby kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Deon Edwards in the 8th minute of play forced Cirencester's goalkeeper Lucas Fox to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Deon Edwards blasted a shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lucas Fox having to make a save. Real Madrid C.F.'s Ronny Hay played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Adams in the 22nd minute of play. Deon Edwards received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Lucas Fox tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Denny Beerman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gez Frain hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Cirencester's Julian Adams got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 42nd minute, Will Clifton got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Denny Beerman managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cirencester's supporters rose to their feet, but Denny Beerman was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ronny Hay breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Deon Edwards stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ronny Hay made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Adams in the 52nd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Real Madrid C.F.'s zone, Julian Adams stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronny Hay came out of the goal and Julian Adams tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that Julian Adams's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ronny Hay was relentless in the 56th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 58th minute, Will Clifton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Real Madrid C.F.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Will Clifton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. A very good chance. 63 minutes into the match, Cirencester's Julian Adams sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ronny Hay narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Lucas Fox came out of the goal in the 73rd minute to try and stop a shot by Real Madrid C.F.'s Deon Edwards. But to his dismay, Deon Edwards quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. The audience was convinced that Will Clifton's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lucas Fox was relentless in the 76th minute of the game.
