Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Brad Branson started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. A collision led to Tranmere Raiders getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Dave Lambert hit a great ball. Brad Branson struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Leon Goldsmith didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sudbury. Alf Fawell's late challenge caught a Sudbury's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alf Fawell helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Tranmere Raiders's Alf Fawell got a free kick in the 16th minute. Rick Swift fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leon Goldsmith having to interfere. Sean Turner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tod Burgess hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. In the 30th minute, Tod Burgess hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The nice shot from Rick Swift in the 31stth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Leon Goldsmith had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. After 37 minutes of play, Sudbury's Rick Swift made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Leon Goldsmith was left in no man's land by his defense there! The audience was convinced that Gerry Shields's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marty Edworthy was relentless in the 45th minute of the game. After 46 played minutes Sudbury got a freekick which was hit by Guy Griggs.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gerry Shields to strike the kick off in the second half. Tod Burgess hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match. Sudbury's Brad Branson got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alf Fawell got his second yellow card in the match during the 56th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After a rather tough play, Tranmere Raiders's Alf Fawell got a free kick in the 57th minute. If Rick Swift had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Leon Goldsmith didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Sudbury's Rick Swift shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 3-0 in the ordered_time% minute. Brad Branson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marty Edworthy made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Sean Turner sent off a good shot on target. If Rick Swift had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. Leon Goldsmith came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by Sudbury's Rick Swift. But to his dismay, Rick Swift quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rick Swift in the 87th minute of play forced Tranmere Raiders's goalkeeper Leon Goldsmith to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rick Swift received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Leon Goldsmith tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Leon Goldsmith came out of the goal in the 90th minute to try and stop a shot by Sudbury's Brad Branson. But to his dismay, Brad Branson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-0. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sudbury fans cheered their team off the field, for while Tranmere Raiders had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
