Sudbury
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) After 7th play minutes Jarle Larsen shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Marty Edworthy and just under the crossbar into goal. After a rather tough play, Elwood FC's Rio Groom got a free kick in the 10th minute. When Rio Groom came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the Elwood FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rio Groom couldn't finish the play. Buster Shilton hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. After 18 played minutes Sudbury got a freekick which was hit by Lenny French. 24 minutes into the match, Sudbury's goal looked a bit too open when Jarle Larsen came free, but Marty Edworthy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jarle Larsen struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Marty Edworthy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Elwood FC. In the 28thth minute of the game Rio Groom who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sudbury's Marty Edworthy was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Kristian Bower charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kristian Bower the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 29 played minutes Elwood FC got a freekick which was hit by Kristian Bower. Kris Bourton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Zane Page tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 32nd minute, one of Elwood FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Elwood FC. In the 34th minute there was a penalty for Sudbury. Bryan Collier stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Zane Page. 1-2. After 39 minutes of play, Elwood FC's Jarle Larsen made it 1-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marty Edworthy was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ben Barton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marty Edworthy having to interfere. Jarle Larsen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Elwood FC's Ben Barton got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Rio Groom had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Elwood FC were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Brad Branson to strike the kick off in the second half. Kristian Bower sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ben Barton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marty Edworthy having to interfere. The Sudbury fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. Ben Barton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Marty Edworthy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Sudbury's zone, Jarle Larsen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marty Edworthy came out of the goal and Jarle Larsen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Kristian Bower recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Marty Edworthy made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when Rio Groom sent off a good shot on target. If Rio Groom had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 74th minute, Rio Groom fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. If Jarle Larsen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marty Edworthy came out of the goal in the 77th minute to try and stop a shot by Elwood FC's Kristian Bower. But to his dismay, Kristian Bower quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-4. Dylon Griggs hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. A collision led to Sudbury getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Lenny French hit a great ball. Rio Groom received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Marty Edworthy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 94 minutes, Rio Groom managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Elwood FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rio Groom was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Dylon Griggs fell near the penalty area in the 95th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sudbury's protests and gave Dylon Griggs a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Elwood FC booed when Sudbury was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dylon Griggs didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ben Barton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Elwood FC's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
